Beschreibung: FBN graduate school on Functional Biodiversity in Farm Animals

The interdisciplinary 3-year PhD program invites applicants to conduct research at the forefront of basic research on the functional biodiversity of farm animals. As part of the Leibniz Association, the FBN has an international and dynamic work environment, providing students with access to state-of-the-art research facilities and resources. A multidisciplinary team of scientific experts guarantees a comprehensive and steady mentoring of the members of the graduate program.

8 Ph.D. student positions (male/female)

are available for a three year fixed-term starting as soon as possible in the following areas of research:

A Consequences of maternal essential fatty acid and conjugated linoleic acid supplementation on early devel-opment and health in the neonatal calf
B Wnt signaling in muscle physiology-modulation by membrane Lipid composition and micro do-main formation
C The effect of cooked vs. raw foods on gastrointestinal energy harvest, intestinal microbiome, immune status and welfare using the pig as a model (CORA)
D Exploring the Impact of the Ala61OVal Substitution in the porcine glucocorticoid receptor on stress resilience
E Satellite cell bioenergetics and functionality in a mouse line (DuhTP) selected for high treadmill performance
F Fertility impairment by acute maternal stress: Regulation of oviduct physiology by cortisol and its impact on early embryonic development
G Effects of thermal stress on the physiology of porcine satellite cells (an in vitro-approach)
H lnterference of stress with the metabolic and affective state of farm animals-evaluation of novel biomarkers for an integrated assessment of animal welfare
Applications are invited from students holding a University Diploma/Masters degree in the field of life science, animal and nutrition science, veterinary science or biomathematics/bioinformatics. A good knowledge of the English language is required. Salary will be according to the German government salary scale (0.5 TV-L E13).

The Leibniz Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) is a foundation under public law and member of the Leibniz Association. The Institute with about 300 employees is performing fundamental and applied research in the field of the biology of farm animals. The Institute provides an interdisciplinary research environment and excellent experimental and analytical facilities.

Dummerstorf is located near the city of Rostock in the north-east of Germany (2 h drive from Berlin). We are an internationally oriented research institute.
