Beschreibung: Obesity is a multifactorial disorder influenced by a combination of genetic, behavioural, life style and environmental factors. These factors and their interaction cause expanding fat mass, adverse fat distribution and adipose tissue dysfunction, which promote a pro-inflammatory, diabetogenic and atherogenic adipokine pattern that contributes to endorgan damage and comorbid diseases.
Because the factors (and their interaction) causing obesity are only incompletely understood,
weight loss strategies may not address the underlying causes of energy imbalance. Therefore the long term aim of the Collaborative Research Centre “Obesity Mechanisms” is to define novel targets and mechanisms for future therapeutic approaches in the treatment of obesity.

This Project is working on the question, which fat derived “signals” (adipokines) contribute to obesity related diseases and how do they function on the molecular level?

We seek a motivated and open-minded PhD student holding a recent M.Sc. degree in Biochemistry or Biology (or equivalent) with strong interest in protein biochemistry. A solid background and practical experience in recombinant protein expression and purification is expected. Experience in methods listed below are a plus.

The successful candidate should be able to work independently as well as in a team, have good communication skills, and an excellent level of written and spoken English. Professional self-organization and data-handling are mandatory.
We offer modern equipment, a multi-disciplinary approach with state-of-the-art techniques, and a good working atmosphere in a young team.

The position is limited until 12/2020 with a salary according to TVL13-65%.

Methoden: biochemical / molecular biology methods include:

recombinant protein expression and purification (e.g. Aekta FPLC), micro scale thermophoresis, MALDI-ToF-MS, CD-spectroscopy, real time-PCR, ELISA, immuno-precipitation, enzyme assays, identication of protein-protein and protein-ligand/cofactor interactions
cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, cell culture, stably transfected cell lines, adipocyte dfferentiation, study of lipid accumulation, glucose uptake, lipolysis, intracellular signalling cascades

animal models of obesity and insulin resistance
