Beschreibung: The Developmental and Cellular Biology Group (led by Prof. Jens Schwamborn) at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine utilizes stem cells for modelling and experimental treatment of neurodegenerative disease. Projects in the lab are at the interface of systems biology and bio-medical research. In particular we aim on gaining new insights in the complex processes that regulate neuro-degenerative as well as -regenerative processes.
In this particular project we are looking for a Master Student who is interested in using human patient specific iPSCs to derive microglia from them. These disease specific microglia shall be used in our recently published midbrain organoids to develop an advanced in vitro model for Parkinson’s disease. This is a project with multiple partners, including pharmaceutical industry. Therefore, excellent communication skills are required.
Successful applicants should have a strong interest in Cell Biology and Neurobiology, especially experience in stem cell biology would be a plus. We are looking for highly motivated people who share our passion for research, are interested in acquiring new skills and wish to be part of an international team.
