Beschreibung: The SFB 1039 „Signalling by fatty acid derivatives and sphingolipids in health and disease“ (speaker: Prof. Dr. Josef Pfeilschifter) is a Collaborative Research Center funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the Medical Faculty of the Goethe-University Frankfurt. See: http://www.lipidsignalling.de/de/home/.

PhD position

in the group of Prof. Dr. Dagmar Meyer zu Heringdorf. The project addresses the activities of sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) in models of S1P lyase (Sgpl1) deficiency. It is only this year that the syndrome of S1P lyase deficiency has been described in human. This syndrome goes along with a wide variety of symptoms affecting kidney, nervous system, immune system, adrenal gland, skin, and lipid metabolism in general. We aim at understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms. For this, we use cells and organs from cell type-specific knockout mice as well as human patient fibroblasts.

The SFB 1039 has an integrated graduate school which offers a training program in lipid signalling and a stimulating environment.

We invite highly qualified and motivated candidates to apply. Applicants should hold a Master of Science in Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, Chemistry or similar. We expect the ability to work in a team, basic knowledge of cell and molecular biology, and a high intrinsic motivation. We offer E13 65 % for 3.5 years.

Preference will be given to disabled applicants with equal qualifications. The Goethe-University expressly encourages qualified women to apply.

Applications, consisting of a cover letter indicating personal research goals, a current curriculum vitae, names of potential referees, and copies of all relevant university certificates, should be sent as a single PDF file of maximum size 5 MB per email to Prof. Dr. Dagmar Meyer zu Heringdorf, heringdorf@med.uni-frankfurt.de
