Beschreibung: The SFB 1039 „Signalling by fatty acid derivatives and sphingolipids in health and disease“ (speaker: Prof. Dr. Josef Pfeilschifter) is a Collaborative Research Center funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the Medical Faculty of the Goethe-University Frankfurt. For the second period, we are looking for new PhD students, beginning ~October-December 2017.

Presently there are

4 open PhD positions

in the groups of Prof. Dr. Ralf Brandes/Dr. Christian Fork, PD Dr. Dmitry Namgaladze, Prof. Dr. Dagmar Meyer zu Heringdorf, and Prof. Dr. Waltraud Pfeilschifter. For short descriptions of the projects, see http://www.lipidsignalling.de/de/home/.

Alterations in lipid metabolism play an important role in the pathogenesis of diseases. The projects focus on the roles of fatty acid derivatives and sphingolipids in inflammation and pain, regulation of metabolism, immune responses and tumor development. Participating institutions are the Faculty of Medicine (FB16) and the Faculty of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Pharmacy (FB14) of the Goethe-University in Frankfurt, and the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim. With our integrated graduate school, we offer a training program in lipid signalling and a stimulating environment.

We invite highly qualified and motivated candidates to apply. Applicants should hold a Master of Science in Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmacy, Chemistry or similar. We expect the ability to work in a team, basic knowledge of cell and molecular biology, and a high intrinsic motivation.

Preference will be given to disabled applicants with equal qualifications. The Goethe-University expressly encourages qualified women to apply.

Applications, consisting of a cover letter indicating personal research goals, a current curriculum vitae, a list of 2-3 potential referees, and copies of all relevant university certificates, should be sent as a single PDF file of maximum size 5 MB per email to Tanja Giesbrecht, giesbrecht@em.uni-frankfurt.de. The deadline for submission is September 15, 2017.
