Beschreibung: Our laboratory is interested in the role of genetic alterations in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Liver cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. The high mortality rate of HCC is mainly caused by metastasis or by de novo tumor formation in the diseased liver. The project of the successful candidate will focus on the functional characterization of tumor suppressor genes on chromosome 8p in HCC.
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student with a background in molecular biology, biochemistry or cell biology. Applicants must have a MSc degree or equivalent in Biology, Biochemistry or related fields. Expertise in tissue culture, microscopy and molecular biology is desired. We expect enthusiasm for science and strong work ethics.
We offer a friendly and productive interdisciplinary work atmosphere and state-of-the-art equipment within the newly established and DFG funded SFB TRR-209 “Liver cancer”. The PhD student will be part of the local PhD Program, which offers interdisciplinary practical training, scientific conferences, mentoring by a thesis committee of experts in the field, and a highly stimulating international research environment.

Methoden: We employ a broad range of techniques, including mouse models, molecular biology and biochemistry (protein-protein interactions), cell biology (live-cell imaging) and computational analysis to connect molecular biology and medical relevance.
