Beschreibung: A PhD student position is available in the research group of Dr. Tomas Werner at the Institute of Plant Sciences, University of Graz, Austria (https://botanik.uni-graz.at/de/forschung/molecular-plant-physiology). The group is interested in understanding the molecular basis that underlie the biological activity of the plant hormone cytokinin.

The open PhD project, funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), focuses in particular on elucidating novel molecular mechanisms regulating protein quality control and processing in the endoplasmic reticulum; the mechanisms critically contributing to cellular cytokinin homeostasis and plant development (https://www.pnas.org/content/112/1/291). This PhD project will provide training in a broad range of latest molecular, biochemical, genetic and microscopic methods, interpersonal communication skills, time-management and knowledge transfer. The PhD candidate will be encouraged to present his/her work at local, national and international conferences.

The applicants should have MSc in plant biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, or related fields. Candidates are expected to have a strong experimental background in molecular plant sciences. Teamwork and excellent communication skills, independent scientific thinking and planning are expected. Applicant should be fluent in English. To apply, please, send a motivation letter clearly stating the interest in the project and the group, a full CV including a description of your research experience and interests, university certificates, and the contact details of at least two references in a single pdf file via email to Dr. Werner (tomas.werner@uni-graz.at).
