Description:
RNA has recently become one of the hottest research areas in molecular biology and medicine. In addition to their “traditional” role as facilitators of protein transcription they are involved in the regulation of cell processes and may well be critical in many diseases.

The focus of the project is to enable exploration of RNA and DNA complexes using Monte Carlo simulations, based on the existing Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulation package ProFASi, developed at the SimLab Biology for protein simulations. The newly developed simulation model will be validated by direct comparison with experimental data provided by the Institute for Computational Genomics (http://www.costalab.org).
The work will include collaborative software development in C++, in addition to application of existing bioinformatics and molecular simulation techniques.

The PhD position is embedded in a highly cross-disciplinary environment involving the Simulation Laboratory (SimLab) Biology at the JSC, the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine 9 (INM-9) and the Institute for Computational Genomics at RWTH Aachen University.

Your Profile:

Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, or a related field.
Strong expertise in modern C++ is required.
Interest in biomolecules and molecular interactions
Knowledge of computational biology techniques is an advantage
Familiarity with Linux-based operating systems is an advantage.
Interest in high-performance computing
Good spoken and written English
Communication and teamwork skills
