Beschreibung: The newly established Junior Research group (AG Hämmerle) at the Institute of Pathology, Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, is seeking an exceptionally talented and highly motivated PhD student with a strong interest in translational cancer research and RNA biology.
The graduate student position (E13 TV-L, 65%) is available immediately and limited to three years.

The successful candidate will investigate the molecular and biological function of cancer-associated and prognostically relevant long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) in pancreatic adenocarcinoma with special emphasis on the tumor microenvironment. Specifically, the PhD candidate will (i) establish cellular models of cancer-associated lncRNAs and RBPs (using CRISPR/Cas9 etc.); (ii) extensively characterize these engineered cell lines phenotypically in vitro and in vivo; (iii) analyze tissue-specific expression of RBPs and lncRNAs using in-situ hybridization and immunohistochemical techniques and (iv) mechanistically characterize the most interesting lncRNAs/RBPs and their dependencies in more detail using biochemical as well as molecular and cell biology methods (e.g. Cloning, qRT-PCR, RNA affinity purification, CLIP).

Applicants must hold a Diploma or Master’s degree in the field of molecular biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, bioinformatics or related disciplines. The successful candidate is a highly motivated, creative, ambitious, and hard-working individual with excellent grades who is passionate about making a difference through cancer research. A reliable and accurate scientific working ethic, and the ability to work efficiently, independent as well as in a team, is a necessity. An excellent written and oral command of English paired with strong communication skills is essential. The ideal candidate has a solid background in the field of cancer biology and expertise in molecular and cellular biology, with a specific focus on the techniques described above. Knowledge in statistics and bioinformatics would be advantageous.

This position provides a unique opportunity for the candidate to be innovative and to work on a multidisciplinary and translational topic using and developing cutting-edge technologies. We offer extensive proven expertise in RNA and cancer biology (Cancer Cell 2018; Nat Commun 2017; Cell Reports 2016; JCI 2016; Hepatology 2014; Cancer Research 2013; Hepatology 2013), a close supervision and mentoring as well as an international environment with state-of-the-art research facilities.
