Beschreibung: The scope of the cooperation project is the sequence-controlled preparation of three-dimensional porous networks (Covalent Organic Frameworks, COFs) by cross-linking the primary linkers of surface-anchored metal-organic frameworks (SURMOFs) via secondary linker molecules. Those cross-linked SURMOF-based materials are called SURGELs, and will be prepared by linker molecules, synthesized within the project by our cooperation partner in the organic chemistry department. The SURGELs will be separated from the supporting substrates by delamination and characterized in terms of (i) the mechanical properties, (ii) the porosity and (iii) the applicability as membranes e.g. for molecular filtering processes in the gas phase. The layer-by-layer synthesis of the SURMOFs allows for the control of (i) the sequence of the polymer chains in all three spatial directions, (ii) the pore size as well as (iii) the chemical pore properties and by that for the tailoring of the SURGEL properties for the aimed application.
You will therefore work in a multidisciplinary environment, in close collaboration with the group and our external partners.

The ideal candidate should hold a Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in (Physical) Chemistry. The candidates should have experience in the fields of surface modification and surface characterization and should be motivated to work in an international team of scientists. For the synthesis of SURMOFs and SURGELs experience in chemical experimental methods such as sample preparation under inert gas condition are required. Knowledge in physical chemistry is advantageous.

Individuals must possess excellent written and oral proficiency in German and/or English and organizational skills. In addition, they should demonstrate the ability both to work independently and as part of a Team.
Methoden: The characterization of the SURMOFs, SURGELs and membranes by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared and Raman spectroscopy as well as by imaging methods such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) or atomic force microscopy (AFM) will be an important work package besides the testing of the membrane properties in terms of membrane-based molecular separation.
