Beschreibung: A PhD position in the Nano Interfaces Group led by Dr. Grazia Gonella in the Department of Molecular Spectroscopy at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz is available immediately. The selected candidate will conduct cutting edge research at the interface of physics, chemistry, optics, and life/environmental science. In particular the project is focused on the fundamental mechanisms behind the Interactions of Protein with Soft Surfaces (either polymeric surfaces or membranes). These interactions are of paramount importance to guide the design of new engineered materials (both on the surface or biomolecule side) and predict their performance. The successful candidate will gain significant knowledge in spectroscopy (nonlinear vibrational and/or electronic spectroscopies), classical surface science/colloid techniques.
Starting date as early as March 1st, 2019 but can be discussed on a personal basis.

Methoden: mostly surface sensitive optical spectroscopies, plus standard surface science characterization techniques.
