Beschreibung: The research group for “Cardiac Optogenetics” led by Prof. Dr. Philipp Sasse at the Institute of Physiology I, University of Bonn, Germany is offering

The successful applicants can/will be embedded in the Research Training Group 1873 (RTG 1873) and will work the field of optogenetics, a technology taking advantage of light sensitive proteins for the manipulation of cells and organs. The lab of Prof. Sasse has applied this technology to stimulate cardiomyocytes and hearts to terminate cardiac arrhythmia as well as to manipulate GPCR signaling pathways (e.g. Bruegmann et al., Nature Methods 2010; Beiert et al., Cardiovasc Res. 2014; Bruegmann et al., J. Clin. Invest. 2016).

The proposed two new projects will eiter 1) apply the emerging technology of subcellular optogenetics to investigate microdomain signaling or 2) develop new laser-based optical stimulation devices for optogenetic identification of electrical cell-cell coupling in the intact heart.

Strong interest in scientific research and above-average motivation to manage the PhD project are expected. Very good English language skills are a prerequisite to join the English language PhD program. Previous experience with electrophysiological and imaging techniques, optics design or computational languages (C++, Arduino, LabView) are advantageous and should be specially highlighted in the cover letter and application form.
