Beschreibung: Founded in 1891, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is one of the world's oldest biomedical research institutions.

Today, the RKI is Germany's national public health institute. It employs more than 1,200 people, provides excellent research infrastructure and pursues a modern approach to its scientific work.



We are offering the following position in Division MF 1 "Bioinformatics" of Department MF "Methodology and Research Infrastructure" for a

Doctoral Candidate (PhD Position; all genders)
(public sector wage scale TVöD grade E 13, 65%).
The contract is limited to three years. The position will be available immediately.

The position is part-time to allow an opportunity for independent research dedicated to completion of doctoral work.

Tasks and responsibilities:
• Analysis of data from next-generation sequencing platforms and data simulations for benchmarking of bioinformatics sequence analysis methods
• Development and testing of metrics for evaluating software based on existing genome-based pathogen data sets
• Development of a real-time benchmarking framework for evidence-based selection and integration of bioinformatics methods for genome-based pathogen classification
• Development of bioinformatics pipelines based on the benchmarking results
• Publication and presentation of research results

Requirements and qualifications :
• Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline, e.g. bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics,
physics, statistics, or quantitative biology
• Experience in the development of software, algorithms, or statistical procedures
• First experience in the validation or interpretation of results
• Knowledge in the analysis of high-dimensional, complex data
• Independent programming experience (e.g. in C++, Java, Python, Matlab or R)
• In-depth knowledge or practical experience in at least one of the following fields are of advantage:
o Experience with pipelining tools (e.g. snakemake, galaxy or similar frameworks)
o Test-driven software development (e.g. unit tests)
o Experience in collaborating with experimental groups
o Analysis of omics data (e.g. NGS, mass spectrometry)
o Molecular biology, microbiology and infection biology

• Language skills (CEFR level): English at least C 1 (advanced knowledge), elementary knowledge of German (A 2) is of advantage.
We expect non-German speaking applicants to be willing to obtain the level of language proficiency required to function effectively in your work environment.
