Beschreibung: The Freiburg Metabolism and Inflammation Research Group of Professor Olaf Groß at the Institute of Neuropathology, University Medical Centre Freiburg is offering a

M.Sc. Student Position

Starting date: available immediately/flexibel

We are interested in the fundamental molecular mechanisms of inflammation and innate immunity. Our focus is on an innate immune signalling complex known as the inflammasome, which is responsible for proteolytic activation of the proinflammatory cytokine IL-1beta. We study the inflammasome at molecular, cellular, and systemic levels using a broad range of cutting-edge techniques, and have made important contributions to the understanding of inflammasome biology and related signalling mechanisms in innate immune cells (Schneider KS et al., Cell Rep., 2017; Groß CJ et al., Immunity, 2016; Groß O et al., Immunity, 2012; Poeck H et al., Nat. Immun., 2010; Groß O et al., Nature, 2009). Currently, we are investigating the role of inflammasomes in auto-immune disease, the cross-talk between metabolism and the immune system, and the role of mitochondria in immune cell signalling. In this specific project, the prospective student will study the contribution of a novel signal-transducing adaptor to immune cell signalling.

Your profile:
• you have a Bachelor’s degree
• you have a focus on and profound knowledge of cellular and molecular immunology
• you have first experience with types of techniques used by our laboratory
• you have good English language skills
• you are an analytical thinker
• you are highly motivated and enthusiastic for science
• you have a positive and constructive work attitude
• you are reliable, diligent, and capable of independent work
• you have good communication skills and can work well as part of a team

We offer:
• an environment with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities (flow cytometry, proteomics, metabolomics, metabolic flux assays, next-generation sequencing, live cell imaging, high-end confocal microscopy)
• excellent working conditions in a dynamic, motivated group where hard and successful work does not exclude fun

Applicants with a strong interest in joining our group should submit their application (including a CV, a short cover letter stating your motivation, and (optional) contact details of one academic referee), preferably via Email and as one single pdf, by May 5th 2019 to:
