Beschreibung: Our group investigates the molecular mechanism of primer synthesis, a key invent in genome replication. We have characterized in detail the function and structure of an archaeoeukaryotic primase from Sulfolobus islandicus (10.1016/j.cell.2018.11.031) and are now extending our work by investigating another second single-subunit archaeoeukaryotic primase. For the initial characterisation of this primase we are now looking for a motivated student.

In the master thesis project the student will first characterize the primase and primer extension activity of the novel primase. Next, structural studies together will collaboration partners are intended. The project involves a broad spectrum of state-of the-art techniques including molecular biology work, protein purification, enzyme assays and binding studies. The master thesis may be extended to a PhD thesis in collaboration with the ETHZ.

The University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland in Muttenz (Canton Basel-Landschaft) offers modern and well-equipped laboratories and is situated in one of the most prominent centres of the Life Sciences Industry. We are located in the vivid trinational region (Switzerland, Germany, and France) in a beautiful landscape.
