Beschreibung: Funded by the prestigious eMED-BMBF program, the newly started Cancer Metabolism group within the Department of Oncology of LIH, is seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral fellow in Immunometabolism.

PROJECT

In the past years multi-omics analysis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has painted a multifaceted picture of this complex immune-mediated disorder. A thorough understanding of the molecular causations that lead to manifestation and result in pathological cytokine signalling is still lacking.

This specific project carried out at LIH will be part of a bigger consortium effort, funded by the highly competitive eMED-BMBF program. The consortium consists of a clinician (patient cohorts, patient based organoid in vitro models, functional analyses and generation of different omics datasets) and a physicist (development of novel tracers for MRI) from the University Hospital in Kiel, Germany and a systems biologist from the Institute of Computational Biology at the Helmholtz Centre Munich, Germany.

Here in Luxembourg, we will work with patient derived biosamples (blood, stool, biopsies) and patient derived organoid models to study the immune-metabolic crosstalk in IBD. Knowledge transfer and training opportunities both in Kiel and Luxembourg will be provided. At LIH, the experimental work will focus on the quantitative analysis of mammalian metabolism (including stable isotope-assisted metabolic flux analysis). The analyses will be combined with molecular - and cell biology techniques (Western Blot, qPCR, FACS, IF). We will focus on the metabolism of myeloid cells and its interplay with the intestine in the context of IBD.

The overarching goal of this consortium effort is to integrate a focused metabolic understanding into multi-omics models to elucidate pathophysiological key features of immune-metabolic crosstalk in IBD.

The successful candidate will be embedded in a state-of-the-art laboratory at the Department of Oncology composed of more than 85 staff members. The Cancer Metabolism team headed by Johannes Meiser and core funded by the FNR ATTRACT program currently consists of two PhD students and one Postdoctoral fellow.
