Beschreibung: PhD student (m/f/d) at the Department of Yeast Genetics and Fermentation Technology (150f)

for support in research activities on bioethanol production strategies from (lingo-)cellulosic raw materials with focus on process and digestion efficiency

The production of bioethanol based on (ligno-)cellulose-containing raw materials has long been discussed and scientifically investigated as an alternative to starch-based raw materials. Raw materials outside of the food sector could be used to produce a renewable energy source. For processing (lingo )cellulose-containing raw materials, a complex digestion process has to be applied, which faces bioeconomic challenges depending on biochemical and energetic use.

- Masters Degree in natural science or engineering
- Application-oriented technical know-how
- Methodical knowledge of substrate characterizing analyses (e.g. lignocellulose)
- Very good English skills (written and spoken)

Different digestion methods will be applied and investigated for digestion success and efficiency. This will first be done on a laboratory analytical basis and then transferred to industry scale. A new technology plant for the processing of (ligno-)cellulose raw materials on a scale of 1-2 m³ will be used for the industry-relevant implementation. The aim is to establish a highly effective digestion process and the production of bioethanol on the basis of different material systems.

We offer a part-time position (50%, TV-L E13), initially limited to 2 years. With positive qualification, the position will be extended for another year. The opportunity for a doctorate (PhD) is given.

The University of Hohenheim seeks to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and strongly encourages qualified female scientists to apply.

Please prepare a meaningful application with all necessary certificates of your professional and academic achievements. Please send your application under the keyword "bioethanol" via the application portal of the University of Hohenheim or by email in one pdf-file to:
