Beschreibung: A PhD student position is available in the research group of Prof. Berend Isermann (previously at Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg (see here: http://www.med.uni-magdeburg.de/fme/institute/ikc/?ikcmit,1)) from the Institute of Laboratory Medicine at Leipzig University. The project aims at studying the role of coagulation proteases dependent signal transduction on the interaction between placenta (especially trophoblast cells), endothelial cells and immune system of pregnancy complications (preeclampsia, IUGR, placental insufficiency). The main focus of the laboratory is the role of coagulation proteases in vascular complications. The project involves:

• Applying various methods of ex vivo analysis, including co-immunoprecipitation, proteomics, ChIP-on-chip assay, immunophenotyping and single-cell sequencing.
• Animal experiments with transgenic mice as well as therapeutic interventions, mating and developmental studies
• Investigation of changes in the coagulation system and the immune system to modulate placental development (in vitro and in vivo)
• Investigation of mouse models with targeted mutations in the coagulation system, as well as generation of new mouse models
• Microscopic analysis techniques such as immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and electron microscopy


• Successful completion of master’s degree in life sciences (biology, biochemistry, biotechnology).
• Relevant research experience (preferably international) and good English communication skills.
• Comprehensive detailed knowledge in molecular biology, cell culture, mRNA, protein and DNA analysis, knowledge of immunophenotyping techniques such as FACS, isolation of immune cell populations as well as in vitro techniques in cell culture, cell migration, cell proliferation, co-culture models and cell death are desirable.
• Knowledge in the field of developmental biology, the vascular system, placental biology and / or immunology is preferable.
• Experience in the independent manipulation of mice (injections, organ removal) is required.
• Experience in the application of cloning techniques including Crispr / Cas9 is preferable.
