Beschreibung: The University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna is active in teaching and research and provides services in connection with ensuring animal health in Austria. These tasks represent our contribution to maintaining the health of humans and their animal companions as well as to producing healthy food.

To meet our objectives, our institute (Internal Medicine – Companion Animals) (Department of Companion Animals and Horses) is looking for an

University Assistant - PhD

Grade: B1
Level of employment: 30 hours
Length of employment: 3 years

• The research lab of the Clinical Unit for Small Animal Internal Medicine is focused on various aspects of inflammatory diseases (main interest gastrointestinal tract) and comparative oncology. In this project, a detailed analysis of the cellular composition and molecular markers of the intestinal epithelium of the dog will be carried out, based on data from single cell RNA sequencing, with the aim of gaining a better understanding of physiology and pathophysiology.

• Implementation of the PhD thesis “Characterisation of novel cell populations, marker genes and differentiation in the intestinal epithelium of the dog”
• Writing of scientific papers
• Participation in training and teaching courses

Necessary knowledge and qualifications
• Degree in Veterinary Medicine, Biology, Biochemistry or a closely related discipline
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong interest to pursue an academic career
• Excellent skills in German and English (at least B2)

Skills and Abilities
• Experience in cell culture, ideally also organoids
• Experience in molecular biology techniques
• Basic understanding of CRISPR-Cas9
• Basic understanding of bioinformatics and advanced imaging techniques • Work with small and companion animals
