Beschreibung: TU Braunschweig (Institute of Semiconductor Technology) offers a position as a scientific staff (PhD student) in “Epitaxy and Processing of (Al,In)GaN” in the group of Prof. Andreas Waag. The research activities will be part of the Epitaxy Competence Center (ec²) and the Laboratory for Emerging Nanometrology (LENA).
The ec² (https://www.tu-braunschweig.de/iht/ec2) is a gallium nitride (GaN) research center, which provides an excellent science platform for GaN materials and devices. Besides fabrication (e.g. by metal organic vapour phase epitaxy or plasma sputter deposition), nano-analysis and processing of group III-nitrides are developed within the ec². Presently we are looking for talents worldwide, who would like to join our team. Here, we refer to the following open position in ec²:
PhD student: “Epitaxy and Processing of (Al,In)GaN” / (TV-L E13, 75%)
Closing date for applications: 15.09.2019 (or until the position is filled)
Job description:
(1) Development and optimization of growth techniques for high quality (Al,In)GaN layers
(2) Characterization of (Al,In)GaN layers e.g. by field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), high resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD), cathodoluminescence (CL) or photoluminescence (PL)
(3) Publication of research results in reputable scientific journals and at international conferences
(4) Participation and development of teaching activities (lectures and courses) given in the institute
(5) Development and writing of collaborative research reports and proposals
Job qualifications:
The main criterion is excellence, dedication, good communication and a fast learning curve. A master degree (or a comparable degree) in electrical engineering, physics, nanotechnology or neighboured subject is a prerequisite. In addition, one or more of the following fields of experience would be advantageous:
(1) Expertise in semiconductor physics, epitaxial growth and characterization techniques, especially for the group III-nitrides
(2) Strong interest in multidisciplinary research
(3) Very high proficiency in English as well as excellent scientific writing skills for collaborative research proposals and journal publications. Fluency in the German language is preferable.
(4) Committed, self-motivated, self-driven, and proactive team player with good communication and interpersonal skills.
Our offers:
The selected candidate will conduct research at TU Braunschweig, which is member of TU9, an association of the nine most prestigious, oldest, and largest universities of technology in Germany (http://www.tu9.de/en/). The candidate will participate in the industry-related projects within the Epitaxy Competence Center ec² in close collaboration with OSRAM Opto Semiconductors GmbH, Regensburg, Germany. Remuneration will be in line with the current German collective pay agreement TV-L E13 (75 %). Contract duration will be three years with the possibility to a further extension.
