Beschreibung: The aim of the project will be the optimization of the clinical outcome of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson’s disease and characterization of the underlying neural activity.
We work closely with the Department of Neurosurgery. The hospital is affiliated with the Philipps University of Marburg, one of the oldest universities in Europe and home to one of Germany's most traditional medical faculties. The candidate will be able to obtain a doctoral degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Marburg.

Your application should include a one-page motivation letter detailing research experience and goals, your curriculum vitae (including a list of publications if applicable) and a German language certificate (B1 level or equivalent of an internationally recognized organization). Top candidates will be requested to provide one reference letter at a second stage of the application process. Only complete applications will be considered. Methoden: The project involves the application of time- and frequency-specific DBS and the acquisition and analysis of electrophysiological data (EEG, intracranial data: LFPs and single unit activity), functional magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion tensor imaging. The candidate will be expected to program paradigms, acquire and analyze data and write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Sonstiges: We are looking for a highly motivated candidate (f/m/d) with a background in neuroscience, mathematics, physics or a related subject (MSc or equivalent degree). The candidate should be self-sufficient, interested in working with neurological patients and able to independently coordinate his/her project and all the parties involved (doctors, other students, etc.). Demonstrated expertise in programming with Python/Matlab is necessary. Applicants with experience in the analysis of electrophysiological data (preferably with the fieldtrip toolbox) will be given preference. As the project involves frequent communication with patients, applicants should provide evidence for a proficiency in German (minimum B1 level).
