Applications are invited for a PhD candidate position, which is available upon mutual agreement.

The establishment of cellular polarity is instrumental for the internal organization of the cell and the development of multicellular organisms. We employ the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model organism to study the establishment and maintenance of polar cellular architecture. To this end we are looking for highly motivated candidates for a PhD position within the DFG funded project "The first 10 minutes of bud site assembly and the initiation of bud growth in the yeast S. cerevisiae". In this project, we want to identify and characterize the mechanisms for assembling a complex and very dynamic structure that orients the growth of the cell towards a single site. Specifically, we want to learn how checkpoints and regulatory mechanisms halt or abort the formation of this structure once assembly goes wrong and how assembly is coordinated by the cell cycle. The method focus of this project lies in the dissection of cellular pathways by genetic analysis and fluorescence microscopy.

Candidates (m/f/d) are expected to hold (or to complete soon) a M.Sc. degree in molecular biology or biochemistry and bring in solid hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques (PCR, cloning, expression of gene constructs etc).
Colloquial language in the lab is German and English; some of us can communicate in French, too. Willingness to learn German is not a prerequisite but encouraged.
