Beschreibung: 2 DFG funded Positions for PhD studies available (E13 - 65%)

The groups of Epigenetics and Metabolism (AG Prof Kirchner) and Molecular Endocrinology (AG Prof Mittag) are looking for two highly motivated PhD students in the framework of the DFG funded CRC-TR LocoTact. Both positions will be in the project ”Control of cellular TH metabolism in human and mouse NASH” and investigate the role of reduced thyroid hormone (TH) action for the development of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and whether reactivation of thyroid hormone signaling can be beneficial for disease reversal. One position will focus on the underlying mechanisms in a mouse model of NASH including an AAV based gene therapy approach as well as pharmacological interventions, while the other position will investigate the translational relevance using human liver biopsies and iPSC derived hepatocytes specifically focusing on epigenetic mechanisms.

The positions (TV-L, E13, 65%) are available from 01.08.2020 (or later) for at least 3.5 years. The applicant should have a Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Life Science or similar and should be able to communicate in English; a FELASA B certification would be beneficial. Experience in molecular and cell biology techniques and a thorough knowledge of physiology and genetics are advantageous. Techniques that will be applied throughout the projects include DNA, RNA and protein extraction, PCR, DNA methylation analysis by pyrosequencing, gene expression analysis, cell culture, and work with laboratory mice. The students will be enrolled into the integrated CRC-TR graduate school (https://www.uni-due.de/crctr296/graduate-school) with a specific and exciting educational curriculum in addition to the laboratory work, including courses at our partner sites in Essen and Berlin.
