Beschreibung: Applications are invited for a PhD position in the research group of Professor Karin Hauser at the University of Konstanz. The project is dedicated to study CO2 capture in nanoporous, bifunctional organosilica aeorogels as potential strategy to reduce CO2 emission by solid adsorbents. The synthesis of the nanoporous organosilica materials is performed by the collaborating group whereas the focus of this PhD project is the method development of appropriate IR spectroscopic and microscopic approaches including DRIFTS (Diffusive Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transform Spectroscopy) measurements and setting-up a chamber for in-situ IR microscopy. CO2 gas adsorption will be analyzed for various organosilica materials to understand molecular interactions, kinetics and the functional role of water during the CO2 adsorption. This project is funded by the DFG and can start immediately.

Sonstiges: We are looking for a highly motivated student who has successfully completed a master in chemistry or physics. The candidate should preferably have experience in spectroscopic techniques. Interest in method development and materials science is expected. Further requirements are the ability to work independently and in a team, as well as good English language proficiency.
