Beschreibung: The Institute of Parasitology (Prof. Christoph G. Grevelding) at the Justus Liebig University Giessen (Germany) invites applications for a


The position is limited to three years with starting date as soon as possible. The position is part-time (65% full-time equivalent) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E13).
The DFG-funded project will investigate the role of stem cells in the development of the liver fluke Fasciola hepatica, a parasite of worldwide importance infecting humans and livestock. The work involves transcriptomics analysis, parasite culture and in vitro manipulation, and the identification and functional characterization of stem cell-associated genes. Based on this, we will test new strategies to fight the parasite. Methods involve cloning, gene expression analyses, RNA interference, confocal laser scanning microscopy, in situ hybridization and bioinformatics. Guidelines of the Genetic Engineering Act (GenTSV) and animal welfare act apply.

•Master degree with a strong background in cell/molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, veterinary medicine or a related discipline
•Practical skills in molecular biological techniques are of advantage, as is experience in cell culture techniques and bioinformatics
•High motivation to support and advance the research project
•Creativity, flexibility, team work skills, and strong communication skills in English
