Beschreibung: At the Institute of Biochemistry and Biology, University of Potsdam (Germany), the research group Biodiversity Research/ Systematic Botany (Prof. Dr. Anja Linstädter) offers a third-party funded PhD position in the research field of Functional Plant Ecology.

The position is offered within the framework of an interdisciplinary research project (SeBAS- Sensing Biodiversity Across Scales) within the Biodiversity Exploratories funded by the German Science Foundation, DFG. The SeBAS project aims at improving the understanding of land-use effects on the biodiversity-ecosystem service relationship by integrating site-based ecological research with Remote Sensing. It will specifically explore linkages between taxonomic and functional plant diversity and the ecosystem service of forage provision, focusing on observation units relevant for decision-making, i.e. meadows or pastures, farms, and landscapes.

The successful candidate holds an excellent MSc degree in in plant ecology or a related subject. (S)he should have profound theoretical and practical knowledge in functional plant ecology and ecosystem ecology; as well as very good knowledge in biostatistics (preferably with R), and the ability and willingness to travel independently in Germany for extended periods of time. The working language of the group is English.

We offer:
• A stimulating work environment, encouraging you to explore new scientific directions
• A vibrant scientific exchange with national and international researchers
• Participation in an innovative, interdisciplinary research environment
