Beschreibung: Development of bioethanol production strategies of bakery products

Bakery products have one of the highest shares on discarded solid food wastes (approx. 10 x 106 tons p.a. worldwide). Therefore, Germany's National Sustainable Development Strategy 2030 demands a quick transformation in this industrial sector. Despite the vast amounts of waste, there is still no standardized process for upcycling leftover baked goods into bioethanol.

This food technology-based research project aims to develop optimal fermentation and distillation conditions for the production of bioethanol from leftover bakery product mixes. You will work side by side with other companies and help to create a novel strategy for the establishment of distillation technologies in bakeries.

• Masters Degree in natural science or engineering
• Application-oriented technical know-how
• Preferential is methodical knowledge on substrate characterizing analysis (GC-FID, HPLC-RI)
• Very good English skills (written and spoken)
• German skills are beneficial

The research project offers a good network with industrial companies, which can be used for the subsequent career planning. The three-year PhD studentship is payed according to German public service pay scale TVL-13, 50%.
