Beschreibung: A PhD position is available in the group of Jens Bredenbeck at Goethe-University, Frankfurt, Germany, starting in August 2022 (negotiable). Our group investigates molecular structure and dynamics, addressing phenomena at the intersection of chemistry, physics, and biology. In your project you will develop ultrafast multidimensional IR/Vis spectroscopy techniques and apply them to investigate and control the functional dynamics of light-driven molecular systems ranging from small molecules to photoreceptor proteins.

You are a highly motivated researcher with an active attitude and good communicative and collaborative skills. You have (or are about to obtain) a degree in Chemistry, Physics, or a related field, are strong in experimental research, and ideally have experience in several of the following fields: femtosecond spectroscopy, ultrafast lasers, nonlinear optics, infrared spectroscopy, programming (python, matlab), physical chemistry, protein biophysics.

We offer a multidisciplinary, collaborative, supportive and friendly environment. Our group runs two laser labs with four amplified femtosecond laser systems which can be synchronized to cover delays from femtoseconds to milliseconds. We operate a laboratory for protein production with a focus on introducing non-canonical amino acids as biophysical tools into proteins. At the lively Riedberg campus we have excellent local collaborations for synthesis, theory and complementary experimental methods.
