For a joint research project on the effects of novel HDAC inhibitors in prostate cancer, the Medical School Berlin (MSB) and the Institute of Physiology of the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin are looking for a natural scientist to start immediately for 3 years.
Doctoral student (Dr.rer.medic/PhD) (m/f/d)
In the research group “Molecular Tumor Therapy and Tumor Angiogenesis (AG Höpfner)” of the Institute of Physiology we have been working for many years on the synthesis and characterization of chimeric histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors in solid tumors. In the present research project, HDAC inhibitors with dual or multimodal mechanisms of action are being investigated for their antitumor effect in prostate carcinoma. The specific mechanisms of these new inhibitors will be evaluated and the signaling pathways modulated by them will be characterized in detail. The antineoplastic potency of the new dual inhibitors will also be compared with clinically relevant therapeutics and combination approaches.
The research project will be carried out at the cellular, molecular and systemic level in order to understand the complex mechanisms of the specific tumor biology of prostate carcinomas and to comprehensively identify the targeted mode of action of the novel chimeric inhibitors.
Your responsibilities:
- Independent scientific and experimental work on the above-mentioned PhD topic
- Application of cell culture and molecular biological in vitro and in vivo/ovo techniques (cell culture, protein biochemistry, intravital microscopy, chorioallantoic membrane model (CAM), flow cytometry, ELISA, etc.)
- Use of primary patient material (primary cell culture), but also cultivation and preparation of mini-tumors for systemic examination in the CAM model
- Histological analysis of tumor xenografts and performance of longitudinal PET/MR analyses
- Characterization and evaluation of signal transduction pathways of the new inhibitors (proliferation, apoptosis, ferroptosis, cell cycle, toxicity) using molecular biological assays and flow cytometric analyses
- Writing scientific articles and publications
We offer:
- We offer excellent scientific and organizational supervision by an experienced team with proven international expertise in a highly topical field of research
Your profile:
- very good to good university degree (diploma/master's degree) in biology, biochemistry, pharmacy or related disciplines
- Great motivation and interest of scientific work
- independent, flexible working style, high reliability and ability to work in a team
- good knowledge/experience in cell biology, cell culture, molecular biology and pharmacology
- Interest in uro-oncological research and general knowledge of onco-physiology
- Good written and spoken English skills
The position will be payed according E13 TVöD L. The classification is based on qualifications, the respective experience level is calculated on the basis of the years worked. The position is planned, with 65% weekly working hours, limited to 3 years.
